James Turrell

Artist

"Corinth Canal" is under maintenance, and is expected to be opened to public after mid-September 2025.

"Corinth Canal" draws inspiration from the waterways of international shipping. In this passage, the sky is framed by towering walls shaped by nature, offering only a fleeting glimpse of the vast horizon. This work marks a groundbreaking indoor creation by James Turrell and is part of the permanent exhibition at the ALIEN Art Centre.

Using light as his brush, the artist awakens viewers' primal visual perceptions and their associated psychological responses, guiding them through a meditative experience on daylight.

As one of the most influential artists of the past fifty years, James Turrell has poetically expressed the essence of the "Light and Space" movement through his works. Since 1967, he has held over 160 solo exhibitions in major art museums around the world.
