Dust is impermanence, it is the everyday, the residue and continuation of matter after weathering.
Gold is the glimmer of light, the sediment of belief, the echo of a spirituality that cannot be corroded.
We gaze at dust and gold — the two intertwined states of existence unfolding over time. This exhibition opens as a poetic dialogue between contemporary abstract expressionist Makoto Fujimura and ceramic sculptor Shozo Michikawa, each rooted in a profound tactile sensitivity to materials and a deep spiritual inquiry.
This marks the first large-scale exhibition in Taiwan for both artists. The works span from 1992 to 2025, covering paintings, sound installations, and ceramic sculptures. Through three thematic segments — Glittering in Silence, Light Unfolds in the Darkest Night, and Walking on Water. The exhibition guides visitors to sense serene beauty arising from natural minerals, light, and elemental energy poured into dynamic forms. It invites a fresh, soft-yet-resolute perspective in confronting impermanence.
The exhibition is presented in two parts — The Luminous Chapter (2025.09.28 [Sun] – 2026.04.06 [Mon]) and The Formative Chapter (2026.04.15 [Wed] – 2026.08.30 [Sun]). The Luminous Chapter invites viewers to explore the question “How is light born?”, and to discover the potential for healing and renewal. The Formative Chapter asks “How does force take shape?”, guiding viewers to explore the gestures behind the works and how time leaves its mark. Makoto Fujimura responds to restoration and hope through the slow layering of minerals and gold leaf. Shozo Michikawa uses twisting cuts in clay and the traces of fire to express the strength of the earth and the beauty of impermanence. Through their chosen materials, distinctive techniques, and artistic philosophies, the two artists present a thought-provoking and engaging dialogue.
