ALIEN Art is a multi-discipline artistic team that elevate senses of space by integrating artistic experience into architecture. YUIMOM Residence and SSAW grandly opened in 2022/9/25, extended a new practice platforms of senses experience.
GOD CREATES,HUMANS MAKE.／VER.2 THE SHAPE OF SCENTS
Born with natural instincts, humans also often purposefully imitate and reproduce nature, and many man-made substances are the result of that attempt. Do humans, nurtured in artificial environments where even simple man-made substances are becoming increasingly complex and akin to natural creations, still possess the ability to discern what is natural?
Permeating scents of the four seasons, two sensory installations present natural and artificial visual aspiration and contrasting olfactory perceptions. They are: Natural beeswax vegetation and botanical extracted aromas, and Artificial paraffin wax vegetation and lab-created synthetic aromas. One installation contains natural scents such as Galbanum, Geranium, Cabreuva. Artificially scented, the other one comprises seemingly inorganic structures constructed of natural-identical odor molecules and synthetic odor molecules such as Geraniol, Galbex 183, Iso E Super.
The installations are a visual juxtaposition of natural beeswax and synthetic paraffin wax that form a small vegetation of their respective themes. They are also imaginative micro view of odorant molecules. The odorant molecules of natural essential oils are characterized by chaos, diversity, change, instability, and sensibility.
Those of the synthetic constructed molecules denote a controlled, regular, rational, single, and unmoving quality.
Take a deep breath and observe the differences. Perhaps, could sensitivity towards nature and artificiality be a reflection of the distance between us and nature?
Scent #111 Limited Release
ALIEN Art collaborated with ÄIÄI ILLUM LAB creating handmade scented candles ’Scent #111’ commemorating the 26the anniversary of of YUIMOM GROUP and the opening of YUIMOM Recidence. The number “111” stands for leadership, creativity, independence, optimism and tolerance.
