ALIEN Art Centre
ALIEN Art Centre is nestled at the foothills of Shoushan in Kaohsiung. The site was formerly known as the “Kin-Ma Military Hostel,” which once served as temporary accommodation for National Army personnel before boarding ships to the front lines in Kinmen and Matsu. Through careful restoration and adaptive reuse, it has been transformed into a contemporary art museum—preserving the memory of the place while opening a new chapter in cultural storytelling.
The architecture adopts a clean, contemporary language that responds to the order and material character of the original military structure. Abundant natural light and the surrounding forested landscape are woven into the spatial experience, creating a continuous dialogue between the galleries and their environment. The Museum’s exhibitions focus on contemporary art, design, and interdisciplinary practices, using curatorial narratives and spatial rhythm to reveal conversations between artwork and site, history and the present.
Framed by expansive glazing and lush greenery, the Museum offers an atmosphere that is both serene and charged with quiet intensity—inviting visitors to slow down and, within this restorative setting, encounter the openness, vitality, and imagination of contemporary art.
Beyond exhibitions, the Museum features a café and an art shop that extend the museum experience into everyday life through sensory enjoyment and thoughtful curation. Visitors are welcome to pause in seating areas accompanied by natural light and forest views, or to explore publications, art editions, and design objects inspired by the exhibitions—bringing a touch of the Museum’s spirit into their daily lives. Moving fluidly between galleries and spaces for rest, each visit becomes a cultural journey to be savoured at an unhurried pace.

ALIEN Art Centre will be closed to the public from January 13 to January 16 for a cultural collaboration project with an international brand. During this period, the museum will not be open to visitors. To thank the public for their continued support and participation, ALIEN Art Centre will offer free admission to the first 50 visitors each day from January 20 to January 22.
