We live in groups, we are alone, we are isolated, we listen, we create, and we perform. In the resonance of the 2020 world, we look for the sound of life by Zhēnzhēnlab's collaboration with the sound artist Yenting Hsu, exploring the future possibilities beyond our accustomed cognition, pushing the boundaries through creation, and arrive the fronter of light.

There is a short period of outsourced inlaid glass business in the early days of Taiwan. Through many years and the change of time, traditional stained glass industry waned due to the demolition of antique houses. The Relight+Music Exhibition II is a collaboration among ALIEN Art, zhēnzhēn Stained glass lab, and sound artist Yenting Hsu. Through combining contemporary glass craftsmanship with sound creation, and the process of light production and sonification of devices, it aims to preserve the early days’ memory of export of inlaid glass since the Japanese Ruling Era.

The lighting work “L001” uses a piece of round stained glass with the outer ring welded with inlaid glass craftsmanship. It was called a lamp, when in fact it was light. Zhēnzhēn Stained glass lab adopts craftsmanship and connects the possibility of art and cultural preservation through collaborating creation with sound. It is hoped that in the flow of time, a flashing moment will light for our direction.

【Relight + MUSIC】
When a piece of patterned glass, approximately the size of a 12-inch vinyl record, is placed on a turntable, what arises from the textures of the glass patterns are sounds of varying frequencies and modulations: electronic beats, heartbeats, bursts of noise, and murmurs. By listening carefully, even melodies unfolding in the background can be heard. Each piece of glass is like a planet, twinkling within the space of unique rhythms and sounds. Using the visual, tactile and auditory features of traditional patterned glass, as well as the glassmaking process, this album hopes to trigger a sense of wonder and imagination in the listener. Listening to the refinement and modulation found within different patterns, we search for the sparkle arising from the impact of glass planets and the universe created between listeners and sound.

【Flash】
In the first album Relight+Music, we were amazed at the sound transformed from the traditional stained-glass pattern, and then there started the light sound series project, which extended to the second album Flash. Adhering to the concept that both music and glass making are an art of time, the album features "time" as the theme, at the same time adding the sound of the city, fragments of memories of life, and an extension to the sound of collection of the recycling and manufacturing process of "glass" itself. Through the loop of the glass industry chain, urban sounds, and different approaches to sound composition, the album imagines and describes the concept of time and various time frames.
