Tania Tsong (1983–)

Tania Tsong de O’Pazo was born in Taipei in 1983 and currently lives and works in Madrid.

Having grown up in Brazil, India, China, and Turkey, her experiences across different geographies and cultures have shaped her ongoing reflections on how individuals perceive the world and the relationships between memory, identity, and environment. A memory, an object, or a landscape encountered by chance during her travels may become the starting point of a work, gradually unfolding through the creative process.

Drawing inspiration from everyday life, Tsong de O’Pazo transforms the original forms and meanings of objects through weaving, embroidery, sewing, collage, and reassembly. Objects that have been used, worn out, or discarded carry traces of lived experience and emotion, while reflecting her observations of consumer culture and contemporary life. In her works, seemingly opposing concepts—the microscopic and the macroscopic, the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, reality and imagination—intertwine effortlessly through transformations of materials and forms, opening up spaces for new ways of seeing and imagining.

Tsong de O’Pazo has exhibited in Taiwan, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom, including at IT Park in Taipei, Luis Adelantado Gallery and Mosquera Palace in Spain, the Colegio de España in Paris, and Wimbledon College of Arts in London. Discovering new possibilities in ordinary things, she allows the familiar aspects of everyday life to take on different meanings through reconfiguration and renewed perception.
